I completely understand that some of you may wish to continue using sweeteners such as honey, raw sugar, coconut sugar and dried dates but you must not regard them as sugar-free. Those intent on using sugar as a sweetener should make the choice for regionally produced and organic sugar from sugar beets. The gi of a sugar may be lowered when combined with a fat, fiber or acid (Like vinegar or lemon juice). The presence and impact of artificial sweeteners in latin america are of growing concern, particularly from a perspective of basic human health and nutrition. Bob’s Red Mill, Organic Coconut Sugar, 13 oz (369 g) Product Review

Delicious Organic Coconut Sugar with Low Glycemic Index. Excellent. Trash. coconut sugar. Another good product by Red Mil. Yummy. On the lover. coconut candy.

Coconut sugar is a healthy and tasty tasty substitute for regular white sugar, in contrast to which coconut sugar has a low glycemic index of 35, while GI of ordinary sugar is 75. That is, it is slowly absorbed, does not cause a sharp increase in blood glucose and does not provoke a constant feeling of hunger, unlike regular sugar, and also contributes to weight loss. Coconut sugar is made from the nectar of coconut palm inflorescences, which is slightly heated in the sun to evaporate moisture, and then cooled in the shade, resulting in sugar crystallization. To taste, it has nothing to do with coconut, but has an unusual very pleasant caramel-woody taste. For my daughter and I, it is so delicious that sometimes we just eat a couple of spoons of this sugar from a bag. It does not look like brown sugar, it is not in the form of crystals, but in the form of small grains of different sizes, a little more humid and soft, and has an uneven color. When chewing, it does not crackle much like sugar, but rather gently bursts, revealing its taste. When it is dissolved in water, it is not a clear liquid, but cloudy and brownish. Among other things, coconut sugar has 16 amino acids, B vitamins, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. This sugar is unrefined, vegan, kosher, organic (certified by USDA Organic and QAI), does not contain GMOs. This sugar can be added to the same dishes in which you add regular sugar, it will give them a nice beige-brown color and an unusual pleasant taste. I added it to oatmeal, biscuits, coconuts, cottage cheese. It is not as sweet as white sugar, where you need to add 2 tablespoons of white sugar, I put 3 tablespoons of coconut. I like to add it to coffee and cocoa, but in tea, incl. grassy, he’s not very good, I drink a bit – so good. Of course, everything needs a measure, and if you eat this sugar in large quantities, instead of benefit, you can, on the contrary, get harm. If we compare this sugar with sugars from other manufacturers, then they all look alike to me, some are more humid, some are drier, but this does not depend on the manufacturer, but on the batch – any brand may have such and such. Now the manufacturer is changing the packaging of their products for the better – a more flexible package and a convenient reusable Velcro. On the site he is already in new packaging. On the flip side is now a new recipe. And I will post a photo of 2 recipes on the old packaging. I didn’t cook for them, but they might be useful to someone.

Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than white or brown sugar, so is safer for diabetics. But you need to realize it is still sugar. Don’t use it in excess and you should be fine. Check your blood sugar after you use it to make sure you are OK because different people do react differently and what works well for one may not for another person.
This packaging does not state if the product is non-GMO. However, the new packaging (with resealable flat top) clearly shows the non-GMO emblem. You might have to contact Bob’s Red Mill to get a definitive answer about this specific product.
