No it is attached and there is no reason to try to remove it, the oils diffuse through the hole in the top. The plastic is there to protect the wood the way I see it.
The voltage is correct for Australian use. The plug is a two pin plug which you may need to buy an adaptor to plug into your wall socket. The adaptor is a very common type which cost less than Aus$5 at Coles or any hardware shop. Unfortunately, my Diffuser did not work but Foodpharmacy Blog refunded me. Electronics are unpredictable but luckily Foodpharmacy Blog is responsible which gives me the confidence to continue to buy from them.
