I only realised that when you asked. Ascorbic acid is a powerful antioxidant. So I assume this is added to prolong shelf life. After all if the oil oxidises and degrades it is of lesser value. The question for me is what is the percentage of sun flower oil extract versus the flax seed oil. I contacted the producer Now via their contact us form and are awaiting of their response. Whenever in doubt about products and compositions best is to contact directly the producer of the product as they should know best. Sorry its only partially addressing your question. The bottle is plastic. The flax oil tasted very fresh. I’m a big fan of Now for their excellent prices and products.
