This is not unrefined Shea butter. However, I chose this product for that reason to avoid possible allergic reactions with substances within raw Shea, which I know could happen. This does not smell at all like unrefined one. It also has longer shelf life, which is something to consider because Shea will last for a long time. Refined one is also stable in quality, it seems unrefined ones depend on the batch you get-you can get a really good one or sometimes not so good one. If you can get truly good unrefined one, it would probably be the best, but I find this item to be very gentle and nicely moisturising without irritating (I usually cannot put any oil on my body-it causes itching) so this is more than enough for me, and I like it very much.
