No, the strainer does not press down. It is attached to the lid and remains stationary; it works as you pour (to hold back the tea leaves).
HI, According to the product description it is all stainless steel. This cannot be correct! I am please with the straining, no leaves creep through, BUT the tea has a horrible taste of some metal. When I smell the inside of the top it smells the same. I am concerned that some bad metal (aluminum or other) has been in my tea. I have clean it thoroughly – doesn’t help! I can’t use it at all, any tea made in it is ruined by the strong metal flavor. Somehow I need to return it – don’t know how yet, since I am overseas.
Probably because its made for just one thing would be my best guess.
