It is not bitter at all. I’ve tried quite a few different matcha teas now, and my favorite by far is the Rishi Teahouse Matcha. Some matcha powders are very bitter and have a bad, almost seaweed smell. Rishi’s “everyday matcha” might be considered slightly bitter, but is still better than any other culinary grade and smells pleasant. I use the “everyday matcha” for lattes and the “teahouse matcha” when I want to drink it straight ceremonial style. Delicious!

I had not actually looked into the lead issue with green tea until this question. I reached out to Rishi tea and asked if they tested for lead and what the level might be. I received an answer stating that they have tested for lead and arsenic and a few other things. They assured me that the lead level is well below the acceptable level by the American Herbal Products Association. I do love this product and am glad you asked the question. I learned something.
