Acetylcysteine serves as a prodrug to l-cysteine. Several animal studies have shown evidence of increased brain glutathione following oral administration of n-acetylcysteine. The brain neurotransmitter glutamate is involved in a broad range of learning, behavior and memory actions, while the antioxidant glutathione helps reduce oxidative damage to brain cells associated with aging.
Although nac is considered a safe substance, the results among clinical trials are sometimes controversial or incomplete, like for many other antioxidants. N-acetylcysteine (Nac) in neurological disorders: Mechanisms of action and therapeutic opportunities. N-acetylcysteine is often said to reduce the risk of heart disease by reducing the oxidative stress on the heart and cardiovascular system. Glutathione precursor, n-acetyl-cysteine, improves mismatch negativity in schizophrenia patients. Nac supports antioxidant activity by helping to produce intracellular glutathione, and adequate levels of glutathione are crucial for healthy function of the liver, nerve cells, brain, pancreas, and lungs. Evidence for the benefit of acetylcysteine to prevent radiocontrast induced kidney disease is mixed. Everyone knows that N-acetyl-cysteine is a dilution of sputum, detox of the lungs and liver, as well as the cessation of the inflammatory process. Meanwhile, not many people realize what kind of relief he can bring in the treatment of cough caused by sinusitis. Yes, the very endlessly debilitating one, which is born not in the bronchi, but in the sinuses of the nose, and from which no classic antitussive drugs can help. This is when the anatomy of the sinuses is changed so that washing and inhalation are inaccessible, and the mucus is very thick, does not come out through the nose, but slowly flows down the throat, causing a dry cough. This is where N-acetyl-cysteine acts as a saboteur behind enemy lines. Thinns, cleanses, soothes. If you are familiar with this problem, I highly recommend trying it.
I thought the black spots were natural when I first opened. But when I almost finished, the black spots got bigger. I realised that it was moldy.
I’ll only tell you about the disadvantages of this drug: 1) In case of an overdose of acetylcysteine, the following are possible: diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain and nausea, headache, drowsiness! 2) Sodium molybdate, which is in the composition, in large doses causes poisoning, so taking more than 2-3 capsules per day is not recommended! 3) The drug in an open jar can oxidize with the formation of black spots inside the capsules, which does not greatly affect the quality of the product! 4) In one capsule, 600 mg of acetylcysteine is a lot, this dosage does not allow the drug to be taken evenly throughout the day to obtain a constant mucolytic effect, since the substance is excreted from the body within 4 hours after administration. The daily dose of this drug is 200-400 mg for children under 14 years old, and 600-1000 mg for children from 14 years old and adults. In some cases, you can increase the daily dose of the drug to 1200-2000 mg. Vegans and vegetarians are at increased risks for L-cysteine deficiencies because as a natural compound it is found primarily in foods like red meats, seafood, poultry, dairy products and others that are not suitable for animal-free diets. Vegan L-cysteine is available, wholly derived from plant sources, but it is costly, especially when compared to non-vegan products and you would have to read the makers descriptions to discern this. If the label is not specific and does not mention Vegan or plant sources then look for one that does. This product, which I would recommend to most, states on the label “not manufactured with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish or tree nut ingredients” – however, red meats and poultry are not mentioned in that statement.
