Laboratory studies indicate that Magtein supports brain health and may facilitate learning and memory, as well as a relaxed mood.
Older adults have relatively low dietary intakes of magnesium (8, 9). Additional good sources for magnesium include foods that are high in fiber, dairy products, and water with high mineral content. The magnesium tolerance test, which basically determines magnesium retention (Using 24-h urine collection) following the intravenous administration of magnesium, is considered to be the gold standard. Another method to assess magnesium status is through measurements of plasma ionized magnesium, which represents the physiologically active form of magnesium.
The report discusses the evidence for/against using magnesium for a variety of conditions, the different forms of magnesium (Such as citrate, chloride, and oxide), and explains which forms are better absorbed and less likely to cause side effects. This may be because magnesium plays an important role in glucose control and insulin metabolism. We are committed to maintaining high quality supplements. Questions and Answers
What physical size are the capsules and are they easy for the elderly to swallow
Will this product have bad interactions with the antidepressant LEXAPRO?
Amount Per Serving means amount per 3 capsules?
Hi, For young children (from 4 to 11 years old), with concentration difficulties, which L-Threonate would you recommend? Life Extension, Now Food or an other? + Do you have any Magnesium chelated adding B9, B12 vitamins as well?
Is the magnesium in Magtein good for other aspects of health as well, or only for brain health?
Hi, just wanted to check that each capsule contains 144mg of Magnesium and therefore the recommended daily dose is 434mg? Thanks.
Hi I’m in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy is this safe to take?
Any side effect? Can it be taken with Olanzapine?
Capsule size is “00” For this product, there are two smaller std sizes and one larger “000” which probably means nothing to most people. It is a typical size not the largest. Some people have hard time swallowing much smaller capsules. Personally I swollen a handful at a time. I find the best way to take capsules is with food, or soda, with banana, just warm water, not cold. Let the capsule get real The benefits of taking Magtein for your brain outweigh any discomfort in swallowing a capsule.
The only two types of magnesium said to have a potentially problematic interaction with Lexapro are magnesium sulfate and magnesium salicylate, the latter actually an over-the-counter pain reliever as opposed to a magnesium supplement. So technically Magtein should not be problematic. Having said that, anyone taking a psychotropic drug should consult with their doctor, or more realistically pharmacist, who can advise you professionally as to possible interactions with supplements.
Yes indeed. It’s also on the label – Serving Size 3 caps.
I think the threonate, in modest doses (2 capsules per day) would be very helpful. Life Extension also makes it in a powder form for those who have trouble swallowing capsules. Also possibly helpful (again, in modest doses) might be l-theanine and dmae. Be sure to clear all supplements and medications with your health care provider (although the supplements we’re talking about are remarkably safe). Hope this helps!
Sure. Magnesium enters the blood stream more easily when attached to an organic radicle, like L threonate. The body then uses it for whatever it prioritises. L-threonate is apparently well absorbed by the brain, hence it’s action there.
I’m sorry, no. Each capsule contains about 48 milligrams of magnesium.144mg is for a 3 capsule dose. This is a very good product (I use it daily), but it’s not cheap 🙁
As others have stated, it is always best to coordinate your supplements with your physician. Having said that, a 2017 study published at the National Institutes of Health found that those supplementing with magnesium during pregnancy ” showed a better result than other groups, and frequency of complications of pregnancy was fewer than the other two groups and showed a significant difference” and “a retrospective study of medical records reported that Mg supplementation during pregnancy was associated with a reduced risk of fetal growth retardation and preeclampsia”. While nothing is perfectly safe, it’s my opinion that modest dosages of this essential mineral would be both safe and beneficial. Still, check with your obstetrician to be sure.
I haven’t had any side effects apart from it working, slowly. Although I have been taking vitamin B complex with Vit C as well, which could be contributing. And I wouldn’t know if it can be taken with Olanzapine, I don’t even know what that is.
