I’m suspect that the answer is no, but I’m not sure. All I can say is that the instructions say to take it on an empty stomach. It gets dissolved and activated in the intestines. To get the best effect, the pill should pass very quickly through the stomach and into the intestines. That’s why the pill has an enteric coating (to prevent it from dissolving in the stomach). I think if you crush it that it would destroy the enteric coating. It is a big pill, so I can understand the swallowing difficulty. My suggestion would be to get some 200 mg tablets instead of the 400 mg ones. He could take 2 of them. Or try a different brand. I have had 200 mg tablets of a different brand that were much smaller than the Doctor’s Best 400 mg ones. Good luck.
I wouldn’t not recommend cutting the capsule. It is supposed to be processed in the small intestine and is specially coated, so tampering with the capsule would mean your exposing it to metabolise in the incorrect part of your digestive system
